• CARBON IMPREGNATED CELLULOSE, A DUAL PURPOSE CARTRIDGE – This is not a carbon block and not a plain sediment filter. Powdered activated carbon is impregnated into a pleated cellulose medium, so one cartridge captures fine dirt, rust and scale while the carbon reduces chlorine taste and odor. It measures 4.88 by 2.64 inches, which is roughly half the length of a standard 10 inch cartridge.
• BETTER-TASTING WATER ON A CHLORINATED SUPPLY – On municipal water the carbon reduces the chlorine taste and odor that make water unpleasant to drink and cook with, while the cellulose medium captures fine dirt, rust and scale. Cellulose media is not recommended for well water or other untreated supplies. For certified reduction of specific contaminants, look for cartridges tested to NSF/ANSI 53 for those claims.
• CHECK THE LENGTH BEFORE YOU ORDER – This is the 5 inch nominal size, actual 4.88 by 2.64 inches, not a standard 10 inch cartridge. It replaces C2 and 155022-43, and W5CIP478 and 155022-52. The 10 inch version of this same media is C1, sold as 155002-43, and it will not seat in a housing built for the shorter cartridge. Measure the one you are pulling out rather than ordering on the part number alone.
• MATCH THE FILTER TO YOUR WATER – Cartridges are maintenance parts, not water treatment plans, and no single one handles everything. Carbon reduces chlorine taste and odor. Sediment media captures sand, silt, dirt and rust. For any specific contaminant you are concerned about, look for a system certified to the NSF/ANSI standard that names it. If you are on a private well, start with a water test.
