At 5 micron this cartridge catches sand, silt, rust flakes, scale and grit before they reach your fixtures, water heater and appliances. If your water runs cloudy or leaves grit in an aerator screen, sediment is what you are seeing.

•CHECK YOUR SIZE AND YOUR PART NUMBER – Replaces cartridges numbered WPD-110 and 155750-52 on size. Fits standard 10 in housings including those numbered W34-PR, WC34-PR, WVC34, WH34, ST-1, ST-2 and ST-3, and any housing built for a 9 7/8 x 2 1/2 in cartridge. Sediment cartridges are graded by micron — coarser grades last longer on heavy sediment, finer grades catch more but clog sooner and can drop your pressure.

•MATCH THE FILTER TO YOUR WATER – Sediment is a first stage, not a complete answer. It does not affect chlorine, taste or odor — for that, run a carbon cartridge after this one in a two-stage housing. Sediment first, carbon second, so the carbon is not clogging with grit it was not built for. If you are on a well and have not had the water tested, a test tells you which stages you actually need.

It works as a depth filter: sediment is captured throughout the thickness of the cartridge rather than only on the outer surface, so the cartridge keeps working as it loads instead of blinding off once its face is covered. Polypropylene is chemically inert and will not add taste, odor or colour to the filtered water. At 5 micron the cartridge catches sand, silt, rust, scale and grit. It is a sediment stage only — it does not reduce chlorine, taste or odor. If you want both, run this ahead of a carbon cartridge in a two-stage housing so the carbon is not doing particulate work. Service life depends on how much sediment your water carries. A typical household gets about three months from a cartridge; heavy sediment or a well after rain shortens that considerably. Fits standard 10 in housings including W34-PR, WC34-PR, WVC34, WH34, ST-1, ST-2 and ST-3. Measure your existing cartridge before ordering — a 20 in housing and a 4.5 in Big Blue housing both take a different size.
